Default 2000 XJ Cylinder head replacement

OK folks, my Jeep is overheating, nobody can seem to figure out why, we have replaced everything and it’s not overheating much, but it’s just annoying. The last thing is to replace the head.. anybody replace their head with a sturdier head than the stock one? Looking for recommendations.

Factory temp sensor? Try a different gauge. Seen many heads as a gearhead, rare for it to cause an overheating situation. Anything is possible, it is a jeep.....

it’s not the gauge, however, let’s say it is the gauge, would just the gauge pegging far to the right, cause the air conditioner to start blowing warm air? Never thought about that possibility.. but when the AC starts blowing warm air instead of cold, that is when I know it’s really overheating or that’s what I’ve been thinking. Could it be ECU cuts ac off? If it thinks it’s overheating?

You can grab a TUPY head from a 2003-2004 Grand Cherokee WJ. It fixes the common 0331 head crack failure. Just need to make sure it says TUPY. If you take the oil cap off and look down itll be stamped into the head.

tupy? What’s special about that? And it works on the 4.0 straight 6?

It comes on the 4.0l in the WJs. From 1999-2001 The 0331 heads used had a casting flaw that allowed them to crack if overheated. The TUPY is a revision of the head that is much stronger. So if you find out the head is the problem, I would go pick one up from the junkyard or you can buy a reman one from clear water heads though it is way more expensive.

I believe it's the same casting number but it's a stronger version

I was just about to ask if the voltage goes down at the same time the a/c stops working.

I'm replacing mine on my 01 XJ with a TUPY head off a 06 Wrangler.
Unfortunately (as you may know) our year Cherokee's (00-01) came stock with the infamous 0331 head that is prone to cracking. To fix the issue MOPAR replaced the 0331 with the stronger TUPY 0331 head that is much stonger and can be found on any 4.0L jeep from 2003-2006.
You can find them all over the place online and local if you do some searching. You will see "TUPY" stamp on the head.

Check out my thread I have going on as I replace the head and feel free to PM me any questions along the way. I'm here to help in anyway if I can
