The electric fan is initiated by the ECU.
I believe the ECU receives a signal from the temp sensor for the fan to run (Via the ECU).

Question. The Electric fan DOES turn on after a good warm up period BUT stays on for only five seconds then turns off for 3 to 4 minutes then comes on again for five seconds and repeats. Ie the duty cycle seems far too short (On vis OFF).
Secondly the electric fan DOES NOT TURN ON WITH A/C Selected on.

any pointers please..

The elec fan on my 01 is only driven by the temp sensor....it is not scheduled to turn on with the ac selected to on as in earlier models .Its possible your fan control relay is bad for the cycling issue or your coolant temp sensor in the thermostat housing is cycling. It should come on at *around * 220. An obd2 reader will give a more accurate display and help you judge the hash marks on your gauge..If you disconnect the connector from the temp sensor the fan will run continuous...if not then your relay or fan is bad..you will trip a check engine light

 

Sir I do thank you for your response. I have four cherokees 1X1998 3X2000.
1998 and two 2000 Egan turns on with AC select.
One 2000 SE Two wheel drive my daily run around DOES not (A/C) turn on the EFan.
