2000 Starter Fitment
Im lookin for a starter for my new xj. Are they universal with other years? One for a 2000 is like 150 before core, while one for a 97 is only 70 before core. Wtf? When i had to replace one on my old jeep (92) it was like 60 bucks. Can i just get one for a 97 and save some cash or is there somethin different about a 2000 and up? Thanks guys.

there is an article in XJ write ups on this forum that show how to modify a 97 starter to work on the newer XJs. Apparently it's only where the wire that energizes the solenoid on the starter is different. The newer ones have a plug where the older ones have a terminal connection.
Look it up. It has great pictures and instructions.
Found it.

So it looks really simple. Basically just buy an older style starter, then under the jeep, snip the black connector and replace with a ring terminal?
