Yes, and remember dumping a whole lot in at once can hydrolock the engine and crack pistons and bend connecting rods. Just like going underwater with it running!
I solved it!!! It was crank position sensor!!! I simply just replaced it, and this thing runs like a charm!! Somehow no code reader can pull the code out of this car, so I had to do quite a bit of detective work, but finally!
I was waiting to make sure that the repair worked before I fully commit to congratulate myself...and sadly, the flashing CEL is back again. As a matter of fact, it only lasted a day.
So here's the thought - when I put the new CPS, it ran beautifully, so I'm wondering if something is fouling the CPS somehow? Is that possible?
I was going to work on it this evening, but now the battery is dead...

Well, got the OEM CPS. It worked!
For about a day.
But a whole day! Then flashing CEL came back. I gathered 8 code readers from friends, and hooked them up one by one, and one of them actually read the code! It's P0300, random misfire. So now what. I'm going to take a look at the spark plugs, and will keep searching the cure. The funny thing though, admittedly rough, I can't detect any misfire under acceleration when CEL flashes. It's...weird, or maybe not, I'd think that I'd notice, but no.

At this point, I'm at the wits' end. I put a new MAP sensor on, just because throwing parts at it. It definitely made an improvement, it runs quite a bit smoother but it didn't cure the original issue. It's telling my misfire, I cannot feel any, particularly when it starts flashing. By the way, I wasn't paying attention, so I just noticed it, but it seems to have a crappy fuel economy, like 100 miles per the first half tank of gas, so I'm guessing it's something related to the issue, unless MPG is supposed to be that crappy.
I hadn't done much to it, or driven this thing much lately, but I had to take it out to haul some stuff today. And something rather peculiar happened. As I was driving, and ignoring the flashing CEL, the fuel light came on as it should, because it was low on gas. But this is weird. CEL stopped flashing after the fuel warning. I tried everything to make it flash again, but nope, no matter what I did, the CEL don't flash. Soon, I had to get a gas, so I filled it up at the same gas station that I always use. And just as predicted, the flashing CEL came right back. I'm ready to throw in a towel, and just drive it as is as long as it lasts.
Hi,
Just thought I would report - this saga has an end to it.
Last week, I took the Jeep to haul some lumber, and I noticed that it's shuddering in overdrive at around 45-50mph. It always had a vibration a bit, but not to the degree that it feels "wrong." This gave me a hunch, thanks to other thread here that I was casually looking a few weeks ago, so I removed the head this weekend, and voila, it was the blown gasket, between 3rd and 4th cylinder. I don't quite understand the sequence of the even that took place there, because about 10mm chunk was missing, but it didn't start shuddering like that till last week. Anyway, patched it back together, and it finally runs smooth now. That was it. I bought it for a scrap metal price, and have already run it for almost a year, so it was already worth it for the amount of stuff I moved with it, but now I feel like I hit a goldmine (which it isn't).
