hello,
My 2000 XJ won't pass smog, those codes came up in the code reader. Aside from leaks and no AC it generally runs fine aside from worse than usual gas consumption on surface streets. I got the p0171 and p0133 codes off the scanning tool, most research points to the o2 sensor near the catalyst, but I can't really be sure. I also get some bad smells from the interior. It has a lot of issues and I'm about ready to sell it after I take care of the smog problem.

What is the best course of action? We picked up loaner tools to pull of the o2 sensor, I've read you can clean it and see if that works, and that one should just replace it outright. There is some casual mechanic skill available, think that would be enough to fix it?
