The second link should be required reading for someone looking for/owns a '00-'01.
Just like any vehicle, look at fluids, for rust, def test drive and listen for odd noises, strange vibes.

My 2000 has 178,xxx miles and still runs great. Keep up on the oil changes, spark plugs, trans fluid etc etc but its hard to say if you don't know how well the previous owner took care of it

I have a 2000 sport. Found it in Portland,Or with 113,000 miles on it.Runs good! I would wait and find one with less miles. They are everywhere here so not hard to find one. Good luck on finding a gem!

I've got a 2000 with ~86k miles on it. Strong little SUVs, no doubt. I'd have to put them up there in the top, dare I say, 5 reliable vehicles. If you take care of them, they'll never ever leave you stranded. There's a reason why I've owned more Jeeps than anything else (and I've owned something from just about every company).
They're known for some buggy electronics and little stupid things, but from a point of view of them being a form of transportation, I bet they could drive to the moon and back if it weren't for the lack of oxygen and their inability to fly.

check the coolant/oil. the 2000 was the first year of the 0331 head casting (which mine has) and are prone to cracking b/t cylinder 3/4. good luck.

I was wondering if there is a distinct noise or certain way to look to see if it is cracked. I have a 2000 Sport as well and worried it cracked. Thanks

Click the jeepsunlimted link in my first post. Look down through the oil filler cap(its right over the 3/4 area). First and most important sign is unexplained coolant loss.
