Default 2.5L help

I have come across a 2.5l and since my engine failed I am considering swapping this one in. It is the same year. They are both 94. Will I'd bolt right up to the 4x4 auto trans that the 4.0 was bolted to? If so would I need a different torque converter? How hard would this swap be? Are the 2.5L as reliable as the 4.0?

Most folks go the other way- swapping a 4.0 for the 2.5. From what I read it isn't a direct swap- everything from motor mount location to wiring harness have to be changed. I assume it works the same in reverse- nothing will fit without a lot of work.

2.5 has a GM bell housing pattern like the V-6.

Completely different. PLEASE don't attempt this.

I'll gladly help track down a 4.0 for you. They're everywhere.

I'm trying to understand the logic here. Your 4.0 failed and you found a 2.5 to swap in? I bet if you walked another 20 feet in the Jeep section of the boneyard you would find another 4.0.

I would like the better gas milage of a 4 cylinder because I make a 100mile commute every weekend. I came across this one in my same year jeep for only $200 running but with blown trans. The cheapest I have found a 4.0 has been $350. For a broke college student if I could have gotten a gas saver for less money it would be worth doing but it sounds like it is not achieve able.
