2000 sport, new head water pump, hoses etc.
After new head my pressure was dropping to zero at stop lights so after looking around here I figured new sensor, oil pump, cam bearings in that order. Well sensor wasn't it, now the pump.
I replaced my pump yesterday and now it isn't moving any oil at all. Any idea on how to prime this thing? I took the connector off that holds the oil pressure sensor and poured almost a quart of oil down it hoping that would prime it. It didn't.
Any ideas?

remove dist usind a drill and shaft of screw driver turn pump shaft, bring motor to top dead center and mark position of rotor dist housing on block to ease reinstall
Update us with results when you get it primed. What was your oil pressure at or around 1500 rpm with the old pump? Your cause of low pressure at idle is most likely engine wear.

It was 20-30 while at temp and would drop to 9 at a light then bottom out to Zero. Rev engine and it would come back up.

You'll want crank and rod bearings too. Might as well do rings and seals while you have it apart. Cam bearings are not all the easy to install, it does take a special driver and some skill to install them properly.

motors gotta come out, first of all might as well do rebuild or used, your this far prime and see what happens no ones 100 percent right all the time theres a slim chance .
1st verify with a mechanical gauge. Cam bearings are costly to replace. Did you check rods and main bearings.....they are cheap and easy to replace. Low oil pressure does not always mean catastophic failure is imminent so don't obsess too much about it. Low pressure is the RESULT of a condition and not the condition in itself. You might want to try running 15-40 but don't get your hopes up. If it is any comfort to you, I have the exact same problem and 4psi (verified with gauge) and I quit worrying about it a long time ago. 20-30 at cruise speed ain't too bad. I doubt you actually had zero pressure because if you did the lifters would collapse and get real noisy.

Ok, I drilled a hole into the end of one of my long screwdrivers and threaded a bolt onto it and marked and pulled the distributor. I ran the screwdriver down to the head on the oil pump and turned it on high for a good minute. Never seemed to pick any oil up, put the distributoback I and turned it over, still no oil flow. Bad pump?
