Default 2.5 to 4.0 ho swap?

i picked up a donor xj today. a friend and i bought it for the parts he needed a cheap new trans for his xj and i have been looking for a 4.0 cause i want more power for my rig. has anyone done this swap? and if i have a donor vehicle shouldnt it just swap out with the 4. i mean change the radiator and motor and wires....??? and would that 4.0 bolt up to the trans in my 93? ive been looking for a part number but am unable to find one i have a 231 transfer case 2.5 four cylinder and a 5 speed im sure all you jeepers know alot more than i im new to the whole jeep things thank you for your help

the input shaft on the transmission is different, the t-case and the radiator are the same. you would have to find another trans and swap the engine harness to get the 4.0 in. you are better off getting a jeep that already has the 4.0 in it.

It depends on the motor, you have the 2.5 so you have the ax5,the 4.0 had the ax-15 after late 89.
How much of the donor do you have?

If you have all of it and want to use your jeep just transfer it all over, you have all you need, the trany with the 4.0 is a better trany anyway.
All you have to do is remove everything from the transfer case foward, including all wiring that has to do with the engine, and replace it with the 91 components.

everyone keeps telling me that i have to change the radiator and all kinds of junk. i grew up on chevy trucks but my exp with engine swaps is most of the time you can pluck the old and stab the new one. esp when the jeep came with the motor im goin to put it. i mean i have all the computer and wiring cause the jeep i got today is a complete running jeep

If you look at the front of the jeep where the radiator mounts it should have mounts,or the holes there where you can swap radiators, they are different but it will swap over, just take a look,it will work.

well i think im goin to keep the donor tht i purchased today. im gonna take the interior out of my 93 and put it into my 91. because the 91 is a 4.0 ho with a x-15 and a 8.25 out back. like i said that the front axle is junk in the 91... would you guys know if the gear ratio would be the same for the dana 30's because both the jeeps have 5 speeds with a 231 case....

The 4.0 is going to be 3.07,your 4 cylinder should be 3.55 or 4.10,see if they have a tag on them.
