If it were me I'd look into a junk yard trans. There are obvious risks involved, but typically if you go to a decent yard you can feel safe. If they sold you one that is bad, most good places will trade the bad one for a good one.

That is, unless you know you are capable of doing the work successfully yourself. Trans rebuilds are more than $250, usually.

This is also something you really don't wanna screw up.
