1999 Radiator bottom transission line connection
Hello, trying to complete my radiator change, this is my second new radiator, the first one had a bent throat under where the cap would go, so got a new one today...
I have the quick connect trans line at the bottom, cannot seem to fit the hose flare onto this radiator pipe? Does anybody have any tricks? It almost seems like the braided pipe is to small for the radiator tube? This is not my picture, I borrowed it from baja820 issue....

assuming that nothing is broken/missing and it's the right size, then the quick connect should just slide and "click/lock" over the flare of that L-shape coupler.
Could you make close up photo of the connector...I don't see the plastic parts there on the photo you've posted.
Here I 've made the photos of that connection, it's hard to make a shot, as it's undter the radiator lower hose, so these are the best I could make.
see attached...

Oh great, I think you nailed it Dr ZEE, I don't have these plastic parts left on my flare connection? I had a hard time trying to pull this connection off, It seems like I remember something falling off....
Do I need to by another one of these transmission cables then? I found some at Advanced Auto, I might be able to make it work, of course $35 later....
But if it gets me back on the road it might be worth it..... Cheaper than a tow truck....
What does the extra plastic tabs do, help (snap) the connector into the radiator?

One more thing, Dr ZEE... Thank you for taking that time to go out and take a photo of that connection on your own Jeep!! It is great to have fellow Jeep Brothers willing to go the extra step in helping us Guys with our questions!
Thanks to all who post reply's with everyone issues!!

You may wanna check if it IS supposed to be the plastic clip type my 99 has an inner metal ring on the actual hose check in the hose and verify the type if it is the metal ring look for bent ears the two should just click together easily
Edit: if the ring fell out they should have replacements for cheap

Thanks great reply's.... My 99 does have the ears type, does not seem bent at all.... Seems like something fell out, not sure...
Or my issue is the radiator tube is slightly bigger around than my old radiator... That is why this quick connector just does not slide on, like it should....
This project has become such a pain, that is for sure... Now it is 25 degrees out and snowing, I am glad it is alt least in the garage...

Well at least the type is verified lol ... So that line wont go in at all? If it doesnt i would double check part numbers to see if you got the correct radiator
And that clip is pretty finicky just for the record mine gave me a good run before i noticed it was bent and as for anything falling out all mine had was that clip....definatly double check part numbers online if you feel that tube is way bigger than it should be

huh, tell me ... my radiator replacement "project" turned out to be a full day long ...heh heh, the first radiator I've got didn't fit, as that "L-shaped coupler" was too large and simply would not fit into "space provided"... I had to go back to Advanced, return it and then get another one from autozone, and then I had another unexpected issue...arghhhhhhhhhhh
I don't want to mislead you into something as I don't know much about different types of those connectors, just what I have here. Mine is '96.
All I know is that in the manual (actually in the fuel line section) there is mentioning of replacement kit for quick connectors, I never had to actually deal with such situation, so don't know details nor have any experience, but the idea is, that you should be able to replace that plastic "fitting/clamp" (or what ever the correct name for it ..have no clue) , and it has also o-rings, as manual shows, you insert that whole replacement assembly ...
Again, that is so if the type of the connector IS the same as what I have. Yours mayby is different.
As madfire said, I'd say it is possible to simply place the hose over that L-coupler and screw-clamp it. I am not sure if the hose will be long enough ther as you cut it, though. All I know that screw-clamp should work fine there, as I've done this too, but on the other end of the line, as I had leak there, see this thread: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/tra...ion-fix-30509/
Good luck, man

BTW cutting the hose and connecting it with hose clamps sounds like a good idea those things are a total pita to get on and off.....It would be much easier in the future to get on and off with hose clamps.

It was quite a learning curve for me, but I got it. Here's some photos of mine.
You're talking about this fitting below the lower radiator hose?

Mine was pretty nasty from all the road dirt, etc. So I ran a 3/8" bit inside the hose to clean out all the crap. I obviousyl did this by hand not with a drill motor.

This is the piece that goes inside the tranny hose.

On my new radiator I had a hard time getting the hose to fit onto the new radiator and realized it was the paint, so I used some emery cloth on it.

I also found that channelocks worked good to tap the fitting together so it would seat and the clip would engage itself.

That's all I know, which isn't much. Good luck!
Oh, just for the record, I think if I ever need to get it apart again, the tool of choice will be the hacksaw. LOL

WOW, you guys are real good!! I will get some of that paint off, you could be correct, it is preventing the line from seating on... It is tight for sure, I might just cut this (quick connect) off, it is a pain for sure....
