Default 1999 Blower Motor Repair//Electrical

Hello my Jeep friends. 1999 2 door V6 (yes, V6) Cherokee with 4wd. Scarce model made for airforce, auctioned in the southwest around 2004, I got it in winter of 2011.

Blower Motor is dead. I'm sure I connected it direct to the battery to test out.

The previous owner had hot wired the blower motor using a direct wire to the + of the battery and a - wire to ground/chassis connected by an led toggle switch on the dashboard. It actually worked for 2 whole winters! Until the toggle switch started setting on fire...

I'd like to rewire the whole HVAC system the right way. Apparently from the blower out to the dashboard works fine since I used to have fan speed control.

So what do I need to do to wire ahead of the blower motor in order that it should be properly connected to the fuse box and any relays.

This thing is an ice box at night!!
Thank you

Default More Blower Motor detal

Btw the dash output for the HVAC consists of:
-1-2-3-4 fan speed
-A cold to hot variable pot (all the way left is max cold and all the -way clockwise is max hot)
And the various functions (defrost, heating and blowing options, etc.)

There is a gray part below the dash which appears to be the resistor - it has an exposed 3 prongs which appear like a relay connector. Haven't tested resistor with voltmeter yet.

Once you post pictures of the V-6 in the 99 XJ I'll be more than happy to help you wire your blower motor. What V-6 do you have in there?

Thank you LOWRANGE for the schematic. I will try to get you a pic of the engine; hope I am right about the V6; I'm not an engine expert but so I've been told by a mechanic. I know straight 6 is the usual. At 3k rpm on some of the steeper mountains around here, where the gears auto change, power man, lots of power. Also devours muddy or steep roads in 4wd.

So the schematic seems to indicate that I need to trace the wire from the fusebox to the relay, and then that the new blower motor should be wired to the relay, and to ground. Is this a good place to start?

Thank you

Very unlikely it is a v6 unless someone swapped it out. If it is I would also like to see it.

Lowrange2's diagram looks strange for a '98+ blower circuit. ???

Lowrange2,

Where did you get that diagram?

It may not be exactly right. Just some random diagram that came up in a google search. Yours is, by far, more accurate.
