Exclamation 1998 xj shift timing is off.

I have a second 98 red xj im fixing up and I just got it running the past few days, it sat for years before i bought it and the alternator had froze up so i replaced that and the battery and shes running smooth.

ALSO- when i bought it the owner had told me something was wrong with the trans.

OK so when I try to drive down the road from my house it wont shift out of first till high rpms or if i play with the throttle some and it seems to do it into 2nd also.
all the gears seem to work just fine. I got her up to 55 and could not feel or hear any abnormalities.

so please help me out guys, im at a loss for what to do I just replaced the TCS today and that didnt even help..

What did you replace, the TCU or the TPS? There is not a TCS.

Whichever you replaced, (if fluid is RED in color, does not smell BURNT and is at the correct LEVEL on the dipstick) I'd try the other.

also i just drove it down the road again. its only 1 to 2nd that is taking too long between the shift. and if i accelarate quickly and let off the throttle then hit the gas again it gets it to go into 2nd and after that its all smooth.
