Here's the pic of my removed cooler lines, which is not the best in the world.
Note that the top line (furthest from you) has the gland nut for attachment to the top fitting on the radiator, and it has the quick disconnect for the aft section of the line, whch hooks up to the rear connector on the trans - Return Line.
WTF! My own pic shows that I'm wrong and djb383 is correct...all the bloody FSM's are wrong, as well as the bloody parts catalogs.
I'll have salt and pepper with my Crow please. LOL
I'll have to keep my revision to my first post as-is.
The pic shows the line closest to you as the line with the quick disconnect that hooks to the bottom fitting on the radiator, and hooks to the front connector on the trans - Supply line.

On the carpet too, nice!
I removed the lower quick connect on mine then cut out all the rubber sections and used
tranny cooler line from Advanced. Solved all my leaks.
Hell I thought my transfer case was leaking all due to those rubber crimp lines..

I'm totally confused now. When we did our auxiliary cooler in install, we disconnected both tranny lines at the rad, dumped each line into 2 empty milk jugs and ran the motor for 2-3 seconds. The line that filled the jug with tranny fluid was the line that connected to the bottom fitting on the rad. That's why I'm saying the diagram in the FSM is incorrect/bass ackwards as it shows the cooler in the rad filling from the top. Our '98 fills from the bottom.

You're right, the manuals are incorrect.
Why are you confused.
