Hi there,
I've been experiencing something a bit odd with my XJ. A while back my oil pressure gauge was giving very low readings, so I swapped my pressure sending unit and the problem was solved. 3 or 4 months later, the issue resurfaced and I thought I had been unlucky with a faulty pressure sending unit, so I replaced it again. Problem solved.
Now, this kept on happening, the last swap having occurred this week. Each time, the issue gets solved, but those sensors aren't supposed to last just 3 or 4 months, I'm clearly feeling there much be an underlying issue causing this. Any thoughts?
Thank you!

Although it's likely c.r.a.p. parts the fact that you're getting the same exact symptoms so often would cause me to;
1) check/ clean the connector and wiring to the sensor.
2) when it reads low again put a mechanical gauge on it.... you never know.

I normally go with the school of thought expressed by most people here.
To use only Mopar sensors.
But seeing how it is a relatively easy job decided to try our Napa Echlin Line one.
Been about 9 years now and so far so good.
Pretty sure I do have an OEM in one in "stock" though.
But when it came time to do the CPS in my '00 there was no way I was using a Napa one.
Mopar ones were still available so.....

Insanity is, repeating the same thing over and expecting different results.
You've got good advice up there^^^^ verify oil pressure outside of the factory oil pressure sensor and then potentially try a different brand/quality part if not just gonna bite the bullet for a Mopar unit

Thank you all for your input! I'll definitely check the pressure with a mechanical gauge, and should it happen again I'll look into finding a Mopar replacement.
Just to clarify, while the issue did repeat similarly several times, each time it would be somewhat different. One time it was showing a zero reading, wouldn't budge from that. One time it would be at zero at idle, and go up when revving / driving. Last week, it did the opposite, it would be a tad over 40 at idle, and drop down to zero while driving, and sometimes fluctuating up and down while driving.
Since I swapped it again a few days ago for now the issue went away.

My sender appeared to have quit once after changing the oil and filter. Since the sender is close to the filter, I figured I disturbed it. I unplugged it, and tightened the connector blades with a tiny flat blade screwdriver. No more problems, that was years ago.
