We're flushing the radiator tomorrow and hopefully that will help. The guy that had this before just didn't keep up with some stuff. Great sound system...but the rear brakes I don't think had ever been done, the front left rotor was so grooved it looked like an old LP record. So we're slowly getting it right.
yeah for sure. if you live in the mountains now i'd upgrade the pads and rotors to some EBC green stuffs and i have Brembo front rotors. (non drilled or slotted) and they work incredible.

Thumbs up I think we got it...

After replacing pretty much the whole cooling system, the Cherokee doesn't overheat. It runs at 210 and stays put thankfully. Even on the most mountainous terrain.

So to date these are the new parts: t-stat, water pump, fan clutch, fan sensor switch, radiator cap, and radiator. Not including new rotors, brake shoes & pads on the front and new brakes on the back (drum brakes).

The guys at NAPA and Advance know us really good now.

Thanks to everyone for their help! I'm sure we'll be back.

Mine hates to warm up in the winter but runs 240ish if idling too long in the summer. Heater suck BAD in the winter too. Takes forever to get any heat. I have replaced the tstat, hoses, and flushed it. No change.

Could air in the system be my problem? Not warming up in the winter and running hot in the summer just seems weird.

Default Overheating as well.

I bought my Jeep Cherokee last month and notice it ran a little hot. It wasn't until I took it for a 3 hour drive that I noticed about 45 minutes in it was almost in the red. I pulled over and let the car cool down and then drove with the vents open and windows down to pull as much heat out of the engine as I could.

I brought it in and the mechanic said there seems to be a coolant leak in cylinder 6, or at least the spark plug is much more contaminated than the others.

He said this means I most likely have bad valves and 99% sure I would have a head gasket crack.

The water pump was replaced in 2009, and the radiator is not the problem. My next step was going to be checking the thermostat. If the head gasket crack is correct, any recommendations?

a good flush never hurt!

but it is sounding like the radiator or a bad tstat. might sound a little dumb but always check for crazy obvious stuff first, like cardboard picked up from the street blocking the fins or the fan shroud busted off. you'll be surprised at how many issues are staring you in the face
