Default 1996 Cherokee: how to adjust hood release?

I'm having an issue where the driver side hood release will release properly, but the passenger side one won't. I've been able to reach under the hood with wire strippers (weird I know) and pull the rod to release it,but I've only been able to get this lucky once. I wanna know if there's a way I can adjust the cable to get it to work again. Any ideas?

If everything is already well lubed, you may have to replace the cable.

I had this issue. If you can pop the hood once more: clean and lubricate the bellcrank and latch mechanisms. Betcha it works fine after.

What's the bell crank? Sorry I'm a newbie with this.

Just lube anything that moves, or is supposed to move.

Not with WD-40. That is for drying out distributors.

Would some bearing grease work?

I prefer 3-In-Oil as it does a better job of penetrating the mechanisms than grease would. Be sure to wipe off the excess to prevent dirt accumulation.

Not very well. It's too thick to get in there.

Try some white lithium grease (it's a spray) or some Fluid Film. I just discovered that stuff a short while ago and I'm pretty impressed with it so far.

If things are really bad, you might want to use some penetrating oil to loosen things up, then follow up with the above.

I finally popped the hood by taking out the headlight and it turns out the plastic clips that hold the rod to the hood popped out. I just popped them in,and it works most of the time now.
