Default 1996 Cherokee Headlight Relay

I recently Bought a 1996 jeep cherokee, and the headlights do not work, we replaced both lights, and checked the fuses, but still nothing, we want to replace the Relay, but we are lacking the Owners Manual, and cant find it, does anyone know where it is, pictures would help so much.

I don't believe there is a relay.

There isn't one. The headlight switch has a circuit breaker in it.

Really? Thanks
I bought the Jeep a few weeks ago and right now thats the only thing stopping me from getting an inspection sticker. Every thing else runs fine, but the headlights wont turn on, i changed them to make sure the bulbs were not burnt.

Where is this Breaker located so i can look at it?

The breaker is internal to the headlight switch, has to be replaced as a unit.
Headlight power flows through the headlight switch, then through the dimmer switch on the column, then to the bulbs. No relays.
Start by pulling the headlight switch and checking the plug. The switch is a common failure as is a melted plug.

My son has a 96 jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo and had the same problem. I looked in the Chilton service book and foumd what i thought it might be the relay, so i took off two screws and found the vlack relay and installed the new one and my son's headlights started to work.

If checking the switch does not help, pull a headlight. You can buy a headlight harness for the XJ that has a relay. The previous owner may have done that

I fixed this same problem on my brother's 96.
In his case it was corrosion in the header harness plug.

Hopefully the original poster figured this out 9 years ago. Your son has a Grand Cherokee, not a regular Cherokee (that forum is https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f91/). Throw that Chiltons in the trash where it belongs and download an actual Jeep Service Manual (google for it).
