Default 1995 XJ Crank NO START OBD I Codes

Where is the list of codes?

1995 XJ Cranks No start.

December 24 - Crank - No Start - Towed it home

December 26 - Damn thing started right up .... thinking it was the CPS one on the bell housing intermittent, we put another one in. ( had this trouble before )

December 29 - Crank No Start

What should we be looking at.

I tried to get codes and think I saw 54 ?????

After the 54 I got the normal 55 END OF TEST

Does that make sense ????

I am exhausted and this post may not make sense ...... going to look at the vehicle in the morning ....... and have it towed home again !!!!

What's confusing me is the list of codes says .........

Code 54-Camshaft or (distributor sync.) reference circuit-No camshaft position sensor signal detected during engine rotation.

Should I be looking at the distributor ????????

Why am I thinking the CPS on the bell housing ?????

Am I barking up the wrong tree?????

THANKS ALL

If it sounds like I am rambling incoherently I apologize ...... I've been up for over 24 hours before I had this problem dumped on me.

THANKS

Crank Position Sensor is on the bell housing, Cam Position Sensor is in the distributor. The Cam position sensor is a good place to start if you're getting that code, also check the connector and wiring (follow it from the dist), it could have rubbed-throught/shorted as well.

Thanks .... I was going by what my son told me, so I replaced the Crank Position Sensor ..... then I looked up the code and it pointed me to the distributor.

But let me ask you this ...... what code would the Crank Position Sensor give if it was bad????

Is there one for that sensor ???

THANKS

similar experience on a 96.dmill89 made a valid point about the shorting of the sensor wire. for me it was the 02 sensor wire shorting and blowing #14,20 amp fuse.fixed the wire, replaced the fuse and voila started right up.

Well the wiring " looks " good, so now to find a sensor.

Seems easier to get a new distributor with sensor than to get a sensor alone, at least locally.

Might get it running and then sell it off and move on to something newer!

So which of those three should we get????
I am still looking to buy a CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSOR !
What is a " DISTRIBUTOR Pick-Up Assemblyl "

A rose by any other name is still a rose, unless you are searching for one and do not know the other name!
