1994 xj with C 8.25 ?
I have been looking to replace the D35 I have in my 91 XJ with a C 8.25. I found one still under the cherokee. But the cherokee is a 1994. I always thought only the 1997 and up had C 8.25 axles. Am I wrong ? And does it matter if I replace my D35 with this axle ? Or must I look for one from a 1997 and up? And what's the differance between an older 1994 C 8.25 and a newer one? Thanks.

Thanks. by the spline you mean the yoke that goes over the pinion has 29 or 27 teeth ? why does that matter ? and glad to hear that the 94's had the C 8.25. I can get it at a good price and the Jeep dealer will put in all the seals and bearings and set the ring and pinion correctly, before I install it, so it should be a real good quiet axle when it is installed.

oh ok I understand but the rest of the C 8.25 other than the spline count is the same ? I don't think the spline count will be a problem for me, I only do mild off roading here in the sand, no rock climbing or jumping...( don't want to hurt my XJ) eganks for all the info fred and when I get back to the states I will keep an ear out for you on the radio, would be nice to work ya

No point in going through that much work for a 27 spline 8.25 if the Dana 35 is fine. It would be a waste, wait for a 29 spline if you plan on going bigger that 31s

You should do yourself a favor and pull both axles and swap them in. You will benefit going from 307 gears to 3.55 gears and get a stronger rear axle. I did mine from the exact same year 94. I am loving the way mine is set up now.

This. 27 spline is a waste of time really. Specially if you'll be in sand alot. And gearing helps too. Talk to our resident beach expert SteveMonger
