Default 1994 jeep cherokee country engine swap

my transmission is messed up on my 1994 jeep cherokee country. i love this vehicle but it came with its own problems of course especially cosmetic wise. i found a 1993 jeep cherokee that is having engine problems and i want to get it. my question is will i be able to swap out the engines? its a 4.0 engine and im not sure what the 1993 one is since it looks customized a little and all the decals are taken off the back.

Whats the transmission issue? The AW4 automatic transmission is fairly robust and most problems are not mechanic, but relatively easy to fix issues like sensors or solenoids. Pretty sure 93 and 94 engines are a straight swap, assuming both are either the 6 or 4-cylinder.

Obviously you can swap the engines, but you said the 93 has "engine issues"... why on earth would you go to the time, effort and cost in consumables to swap a questionable engine into your Jeep??? If you're going to pull the engine on the 93 and rebuild it, then sure, that makes sense, but if you're looking for an engine donor vehicle, there are surely better options available.

As far as the 93 and what engine it has, use your eyes. Is it a 4.0 I6 or a 4cyl - I believe in 93 it was only the regular 4.0 I6 or the 2.5 I4 out of the factory.

well the transmission on my 94 went out last year hows its working is it acts as though 1st and second gear no longer exist so up until 45mph it doesnt shift at all what so ever and once it does the jeep acts normal from there. it WILL not roll back even in neutral. i have a 4.0 v6. the 93 jeep i just found this info out on it "So I bought this Jeep to build it into a trail rig. I guy’s said the car died while he was driving it but didn’t know and said someone told them it was the time.so I towed it to my house and diagnosed it and found that it wasn’t the time but two cylinders have no Compression do you to the fact that the pistons have a hole so it needs a rebuilt or a new engine. It’s a 4.0 inline six . Automatic transmission. 4wd drive" now the only difference is its 1 a year older, 2 lifted and 3rd 4wd while mines 2wd.

Moving your good 93 engine into the 94 with a bad engine but good trans should work just fine. Straight swap no surprises. The 2wd and 4wd transmissions won't swap as the back ends are different. On the trans issue, does it shift into first if you put the shifter in first? If it shifts manually that way, I'd suspect a solenoid problem, although it's odd that it won't roll in neutral.

So after you swap the engine, you'll have a 93 4wd and a 94 parts jeep, right?
You don't have a V6, right? Both are 4.0L I6's right?

If it's a 4.0, it's a STRAIGHT 6! The only V6 they put in it was back in the late 80's and it was a GM 2.8L

Like said, the 4.0L is a straight 6. You can call it an inline 6 as well. Same thing.
