1992 xj limited key/door/light buzzer mod
Hi all! First post here so feel free to tell me what I’m doing wrong lol. Trying to find a way to disable the key in ignition buzz function and keep the lights on door open buzz if possible, so far all I can find is the total removal option but that apparently doesn’t stop me from leaving my lights on haha. I’ve tried probing the plug with a volt meter to see what parts turn off and on to activate the buzz for different functions but I can’t make any sense of it, any wisdom on how the buzzer works or wiring diagrams would be greatly appreciated!
Ok so I tried getting the plug out but it was far too awkward to deal with in there so I bent pin 1 on the buzzer out and tried it. didn’t change a thing far as I can tell. Then I bent the fused ignition pin on the diagram and had the same results, so I tried every other pin one by one, the only two that seemed to change anything where the middle two labeled seat belt sense and ground in the diagram and they cut the buzz off completely. So unless there’s a combination of pins that need to be bent at the same time there’s no way to have one without the other with the buzzer I have. Thanks for the info though!

How odd. Past that I can't really help you with that one. My buzzer was dead on mine but I did want a light on / ignition off warning, so I went to a scrap yard and got one from another car.It was from an old Toyota Emina as a friend had one and it had a soft chime noise to it, the kind that go ding, ding, ding, ding instead of bzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
It wasn't a straight swap, and in the end it was trial and error as the only wiring diagrams were in Japanese so I couldn't follow them. After a few puffs of smoke from the unit, me and my brother managed to find the right pins to give it live, ground, ignition live and lights live.

i have made a probe which is a pin soldered to thin wire, and using a test light or multimeter, should hopefully be able to identify the wire that activates the unit of headlights left turned on,
thats all i am interested in, once i know that, i should be able to rig up a light or buzzer to notify me when headlights are left on

Ok I messed around with some test leads and the buzzer module, there’s two separate buzzers and a bi-metal (timer?) switch inside, the switch is on pins 1 2 and 3, I’m not entirely sure what it does though. Pin 2 and 4 activates one buzzer and pins 6 and 7 activate the other. The buzzers do make slightly different sounds though so when I plugged it back in I checked to see if the key and headlight signals where using different buzzers. As far as I can tell they are on the same buzzer which I think means that both signals come down the same wire to the buzzer module. I think at this point the only option to delete the key in ignition buzz would be to remove the signal wire at the ignition switch, I’m not sure if that will effect the timed dome light function though. From what I can see on the wiring diagrams they are related circuits. Keep in mind that I am no expert so this might be bad or useless information but I figured I’d post what I think I know haha
