Good evening-
This might be a stupid question but I wasn't sure so thought to ask you savvy Tech guys and put it to rest...
Someone told me
It was a bad idea to leave the key in the ignition overnight while parked in my attached garage ?
That computers are still engaging through the key chip, its affecting the tumblers in the ignition itself yadayada ?
I didn't think it made any difference. Does it?
Is that statement.... True False or doesn't make any difference?
Thank you.

I don't think it's gonna hurt anything as long as the key is in the OFF position. Check the owners manual and see if there are any warnings about leaving the keys in the ignition.

Busted that's kinda what I thought. I mean I did it with my 00 drove that 14 years, always left the key in after turning the car off in the garage and nothing happened all those years. I just don't see it? Although my friend JerryK retired Teamsters and a pretty smart guy says don't do it??
I don't really do it with my other cars but since this WJ is my daily driver, I always park it in the garage, close the garage door with the EVIC. Turn the car off and leave key in. By the time I get out of the drivers door, the garage door is closed and I walk in the house through the mud room. Done deal.
Next day I exit through that same laundry room, open the garage door step in the WJ and turn the key on, pull out wait for the garage door to close. Say to myself, garage door check and drive away... Creatures of habit.
Btw Is it just me or does anybody else end up thinking they left the garage door open and end up driving back around the block? If yes, try saying, garage door check to yourself, you'll never think Oh boy did I close the garage door

My garage is too full of my wife's junk. There is no way I can park in there. But if I was able to park in the garage and left the keys in the ignition, I would be sure to leave a window open enough to get an arm in just incase the door locks freak out and lock me out.

Really? What does she have an home side biz or something? Stored boxes, inventory and stuff?
Yes, I always lower the windows too. Not for fear the doors are going to lock but just to air it out...
Garage door check? Check. Lol

My wife is a bit of a hoarder...er, collector. She collects (hoards) clothes, purses, shoes, jewelry, books, DVDs, baby stuff for future grand kids. About the only thing she will get rid of is my stuff.

About the keys, most insurance companies will not pay off on damages done to or by a stolen car IF they have your keys when it's found. As far as the Police are concerned, you become a suspect in any crimes committed with it. Just because it's in a garage doesn't make it safe.
Peter, how do you get into your house from the garage without your keys? I'll bet you don't lock that laundry room door, do you?
Also, be aware that a large, heavy keyring can wear out the lock tumblers and electronic key sensor in you column by swinging around while you're driving.

Hi Dave, how have you been? Thanks for posting, I've heard about the heavy key rings affecting stuff so I don't use anymore then the key and fab.
As pertains to the laundry room, yes thank you, I have a dead bolt on that door that I lock at night. That said there is quite a bit in the garage too. I know if anyone wanted it bad enough they can always get in and burglarize it. I understand there are many desperate peeps, I have a snub nose 357 I keep nearby in case someone actually had bad intentions... Living in a big city you just never know do you?
Thanks again. Talk later guys

And there sure are some nut cases out there! Even the pretty ones, you just don't know whats behind those pretty sultry eyes..

That's why our forefathers thought was a good idea to always keep our two buddies Swith & Wesson at arms reach... Correct?
