Default 1992 XJ 4.0l Engine Rumble

Hey All - Heard a strange sound a couple weeks ago when letting off of the gas pedal abruptly from the engine compartment. It's not a ticking or knocking - more of a rumbling or grating sound. With 296,000 miles I've gotten used to noises and ignored it lol. Now, it's making the sound each time the rpms breach the 2,000 mark. Not sure if it's causing a small vibration or not, it could be but I could also be over thinking it. I have had to replace a few pulleys this year, would the harmonic balancer make cause this? Just tossing out an idea. Thanks everyone.

The balancer is for imperceptable harmonics, not vibes like you're describing.

Have you LOOKED at your balancer? Engine mounts? Trans mount?

Some noggin pokin' is in order on your end.
