i have a 1992 cherokee 4.0/6 auto with a hard starting problem

im reading these posts and I have a similar problem,my jeep is hard starting. I did a full tuneup and replace cooling temp sensor as well as the fuel filter. still hard to start. pressure at the rail was 28psi at best with the engine running,after the engine was shut off the gauge went to zero really fast. it was suggested to me to install a inline fuel check valve............is that going to work?
I am not sure what to do since I am in no way a mechanic.......looking for simple suggestions and crystal clear help in any way. thanks!
