I have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L 4WD. I'm having problems with my NSS. I ordered a new switch but it doesn't fit. Te "key" notch is in the wrong place. I've looked everywhere and can't find a NSS with the notch where my key notch is located. See pictures, the lighter color connector is what I have and the black connector is the replacement switch.
a lot of the times you can take the nss off and take it apart and clean them and they will work just fine. could save you a few bucks
That is a thought but I was told it's only good for about 6 months. I can understand why I can find a match for my connector. I've searched everywhere and they all have the key notch in the wrong place.

I removed and cleaned mine out about a year ago and have had no issues with it yet.
OK... My bad... There are 2 cables that come up from the transmission that look the same, i had the wrong one. I put the NSS on and it still doesn't start but I can feel the starter relay click. The furl pump relay clicks first then the starter relay clicks in the start position but it doesn't turn over. Any ideas?
New to you XJ? Had it for a while? Any previous signs of a no start? Sluggish starter motor?
One good place to start would be to clean up your battery terminals and engine grounds. Costs nothing to do and if it doesn't help, it probably prevented another future issue. Make sure you take apart and clean up grounds and use some form of grease to keep moisture out fo the cleaned contacts.
My old NSS only works in the neutral position so I will need to replace it. No matter what I couldn't get it to turn over so I hit the starter with a hammer and starts right up. Guess there's a bad spot on the starter so I need to replace that also. Thanks all...
