neutral safety switch?
I have a 92 XJ and usually it will start without a problem but occasionally it will not turn over at all, unless I put it in neutral and hold the shifter to the left. Sometimes I have to just mess with it for a minute and it will turn over but I was wondering if it was a neutral safety switch problem. -auto trans- Thanks guys.

Sounds like the NSS, I've had the same problem. Are you also not showing backup lights when in reverse?
If so, here's a how to guide on cleaning the NSS before dropping $200.

So I unpluged everything and clipped all the zip ties. But when I went to take the nss off, it was stuck on the manual valve shaft. I eventually got it off, only to find that I had broken the contact arm and much of the housing. I decided to hard wire the wires, I connected the black and black with white stripe wires together. It will start in any gear now, which is not a problem. But I want to figure out witch wires are for the reverse lights, so I can wire up a toggle switch on the dash. If you guys could help out, that would be awesome. I've looked on the internet and couldn't seem to find anything out about the individual wires. Thanks

Check this page out. About half way down the slides he shows the switch make up. (continuity in the reverse position). It should get you what your looking for.
