Not sure if this is the best area to post this question but here we go.
I have a 1990 XJ pioneer and have owned an 87 pioneer also. I'm a huge fan of the older models. However, I had a really good deal presented to me on a 1998 xj sport from a buddy (500$). Everything works fine and runs fine. My first thought is, newer motor with less miles and more power from the factory, but more electronics and different parts category from my current jeep on some things.
If I part it, can I swap parts, motor, etc to my Pioneer without running into sensor/computer issues?
I don't know anything about the sport models, are they good candidates for trail rig builds? And are 98's as easy to mod as older models?
Thanks y'all!

Or you can sell it to me! kidding
good parts can be obtained from it, off course not everything will just bolt on, but there are a lot of things to use in your older XJ
A friend of mine swapped doors, front fenders, grill and even the dash console, making it look pretty good!

The side view mirrors are a great upgrade for the 90 also.
I parted out a 99 a few years back. Had the Chrysler 8.25 rear end also.
Put that in my 88 and converted it to rear discs easily.

I have 93 & 92 and I have done 2000 front end swap and wiper arms. Most parts are interchangeable through all model year on the cherokees , body wise , interiors change some.

Ok cool. I like my 90s body style..but I thought about parting some mechanical pieces. Thanks for the input. I may buy it, swap the motor into mine and move my lift to it so that I can make my long arm kit I've been wanting to do on mine and sell the 98
