1990 jeep Cherokee no start
Details on the jeep
1990
Cherokee Laredo
4.0 i6
Manual transmission I don't know which tranny it is ax5-ax15 or ba 10/5 I'll figure it out after I go back to class
Unknown transfer case, again I'll find it out.
Mileage 267,xxx
Now to my issue, I was driving along Monday night under light acceleration when the engine died, I tried re cranking it while still moving. (With the clutch in) it started up but ran horrible. Rpms fluctuating, misfiring, sharp jerking in gear. I shut down the engine to hopefully prevent further damage and had a friend pull me to my college shop. Yesterday I tried starting it after letting it sit for 12-15 hours or so. Won't even turn over, I tried replacing the cap and rotor.(rotor tab had broken off so a good idea anyway) wouldn't start. Replaced the cps today after getting .38-.40 volts ac when cranking. Discovered a broken ground strap going from the rear of the engine block to the firewall. I plan to fix that and then Try cranking again. I have read that grounds can wreck havoc so I will be checking all the ground I can find. Is there anything else you all think I should check? I just bought the jeep and I like it but I need a reliable daily driver to get to class and home.

Fuel - air - spark
Turn your key forward and listen for the fuel pump to prime up. Check the fuel filter.
Make sure that your plugs are sparking nice and hot.

Plugs aren't getting spark, which is why i replaced the cps. The ground strap between the engine and firewall is broken so I will fix that first, then I'll check the fuel system.

There is a procedure around here somewhere to test your coil with a multimeter.
*Do yourself a favor and Google "Cruiser54" and "Lunghd".

Cruisers tips are right up top in my sig. > https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f51/cr...x-tips-153657/
So it cranks, (turns over), you get .4 ish ac volts from the CPS, but no spark?
I did this...a bit rough...I tried with led's from the $ store and it didn't work...maybe helpful though>

Correct. However it turned out that the cause was the ground wire between the engine and the driver firewall had broken through completely and thus was isolating the engine from the rest of the body. Replaced the cable and she runs great! Thanks for all the help!
