1986 V-6 2.8 help question
Help, I bought an old Cherokee that needs work, I started addingcoolant because it looked low and coolant started pouring from a copper looking tee on the rear of engine in front of tranny dipstick, it has theaded end and the other end has 2 wires coming from it, thanks in advance.

I think it has a Tee to adapt a temperature gauge in addition to an OEM idiot light. You can plug the open end of the Tee or remove the sending unit from the Tee, remove the Tee, and put the sending unit in directly......of course I could be wrong.
Do you have lights instead of gauges?

Thank you for reply, I'm not sure about the idiot lights, just trailered it home and all I have done is remove bird nest from radio area and poured coolant in, it doesn't even have a battery yet. The pic should be rotated to the left.

The only guages I have are the fuel and MPH, the rest appear to be lights. The Tee I have comes off the rear left of the engine it has two wires and the other end has a threaded end with no hose attached but looks like it may have at one time, there is a hose that is about 1 foot long coming from firewall that goes nowhere, it is below and to the right of the heater core hoses.

Is there an aftermarket temp gauge inside? or evidence that there had been one somewhere?
There are both electric and mechanical temp gauges available. Electric would have a sensor with wires similar to the one on the Tee. A mechanical gauge would have tubing to the back of the gauge.
2.8L V-6, eh? It made almost as much HP as the 2.5L FI I-4.

Here is a better pic of it removed, and yes I just found an old temp guage in the pile of debris inside(electric), this will be my first project I know very little about engines just enough to get in trouble, I think the Tee was an ad on maybe, I think you might be suggesting that as well? I think I will buy a new temp guage or rig it as in the second pic your thoughts? I edited this because I don't like the looks of new temp sensors from parts site on internet, that have male threads, the threads coming out of the back of engine are male also, maybe this is an oem Tee and there was another sensor going to it, my manual I bought appears to worthless on any explanation. I'm lost......but my fix will work I think....I just can't stand this nagging thought of there should be another sensor or hose going somewhere.

Put some plumbers thread tape on that silver plug, reinstall the assembly and drive on. It was for an added on mech. temp gauge. I had to do the same thing to my Corolla for an aftermarket oil pressure gauge.
