Just yesterday I was given a 98 cherokee sport by my grandparents. I have two questions. 1. Does a 98 Cherokee sport have overdrive and where is the button or switch or whatever located? and 2. If i wanted a 1.5" or 2" lift kit which is the best for the lowest price? (Please note- i don't want to spend over 500 for a lift kit. Im only sixteen and I am not a very good mechanic but my uncle can help me install the kit so I don't need to pay a mechanic or anything)
Should be auto over drive, it will just sorta happen on its own.
If you want to go like insane cheap go pick up yourself some 2"spacers, and run down to Autozone and get a 3"block. That should run you under $70 but I don't personally suggest it.

I will assume it is an auto trans, it is an aw4 which is a 4 speed trans and you don't have a switch to engage overdrive. When you put it in drive it will shift into overdrive by its self. Look on line for your lift, a 1 1/2 inch - 2 inch lift using front coil spacers and rear lift shackles should cost around $100 - 150 plus shipping.

Thanks for the help guys. Yes it's auto and I did not know it has an auto overdrive (Pretty much all my other family members SUV's have an o/d button on the gear shift)

Oh one other thing. I was looking at a Rough Country 2" suspension lift. Do i need any other special parts such as a new axle or anything to install the kit?

this is my old 89 xj just before I sold it. 9" lift and 35's but this will require lots of mods to make it work right.

I'll think about a 3" but I'm not going to be doing extreme off-roading because this is my only vehicle. I just want a small lift that i could put at least 31's on to look good and for when I go hunting to be able to get through the bush, which doesn't have a very extreme terrain it's mostly just a bit rocky and some streams and very small mudholes

look into getting a 3in, it'll be a little more then the spacer lift, but there are alot of ways to get 3in.
Some ways are:
Get new 3" lift springs front a back
Get some ZJ V8 stock springs with a spacer an shackles or bastard back or blocks
I recomend getting new springs all around. But thats a little pricey for a 16yr old, trust me im in that position. But i managed to find a free 1.5in lift kit. So just look around, including the junkyard. You'll find goodies
