'00 AW4 Shifting into OD weird
My 00 shifts perfectly through 1,2 & 3 but when it gets to 4th it shifts into OD about 1 second after it hits 4th. Sound effects... rrRRRR-shift2-rrRRRR-****3-rrRRRR-shift4- rr-shiftOD. It doesn't slip into gear, it shifts tight all except when it hits OD. Pressing on the gas won't bring it out of OD, it only kicks down to 3rd/passing.
Any ideas or adjustments anyone can recommend?

Fluid level is full. I changed the filter, (if you can call it that) and refilled it with Merc/Dex about 3 weeks ago. I thought maybe that was the issue as it has 189K on it but that didn't take care of it.
I am wondering if the previous owner didn't take is somewhere and have it serviced and they put Dex 4 in it per the Mfgr bulletin. Could mixing the two cause that problem?
To completely drain it and the TC and fill it with all the same fluid I read a write-up from someone who said to detach the top line on the radiator and put a hose and clamp over the line connection and the end in a 5 gal bucket and secure the end with a clamp. Then have someone start the vehicle and while running, pour new fluid into the refill spout and continue doing that until the fluid coming out into the bucket runs the right shade of red. Has anyone tried this method

My 95 doesn't shift that way, you can actually increase speed in 4th before it goes into OD. This '00 does not. It shifts to 4th then immediately goes into OD.
Who knows, maybe my 95 is the one that is messed up!

I am not familiar with Torque Converter lockup, I will look it up.
All I know is that when it goes from 3rd to 4th it shifts 2 times, very fast with each one dropping the engines RMPs individually.
I will try the Lock test while going down the road on the way home from work and see if it works.
