Brake inspection today. I'll need to weld up the wear mark on the knuckle, grind flush, and install new pads & rotors soon.

If you're curious how the oil looks, I'd use a magnetic drain plug as well.

245,000 Miles Quick oil change.

Switched to VR1 oil to protect the flat tappet camshaft. It's got a good zinc additive package and proper detergent package for this.

I know it may be silly to switch NOW after 245,000 miles - But hey, makes me feel better?

Went back to the stock radio, I just like the look and feel of it more.

Added a Bluetooth adapter inside the radio for the cassette function.

I was thinking of going back to the stock radio too. How does the Bluetooth cassette converter work for you? Any reduction in sound quality?

What became of all the bits of material in the oil filter that you disassembled in 2023?

Have you replaced the heater core? Maybe done by PO?

Did the motor run any cooler after replacing the cam timing assembly?

If you want an easy dual din stereo install with wireless Android Auto and Carplay, check out the Sony XAV-AX6000. Its a pretty spendy headunit, but install is a snap, and its been one of the most satisfying updates I've made to my XJ. If you are inclined, you can even add remote control buttons (i.e., SWC).

TBH it sounds nearly like Im using an aux cord in modern cars, so I'm very impressed.

I have replaced the heater core back when the evap core was replaced.

Bits of material in the oil filter tested as carbon - Probably from using a better quality detergent oil - carbon through various areas of the engine. - See previous photos of the timing cover.

Cassette deck died, swapped out the deck part in the radio with a parts radio - all fixed.

Also cleaned the switches with contact cleaner, and double checked all backlight bulbs were working.

I found that no company makes new bottom seat foam for our 1997-2001 jeep XJs.

That is until I found summit racing's 100% new seat foam (listed for the YJ) fits our XJ's just fine!

I made a how-to video below on replacing this seat foam, no more left side lean! My back no longer hurts!

PARTS:
Driver side bottom cushion:

Hog ring pliers:

246,000 Miles

Check engine light was on, due to a failing NSS on the transmission. - Also overdrive gear was no longer working due to this.

I was going to clean and rebuild it, but found the arm had broken plastic. Popped on a new one, good to go.
