Took off my diff cover and took out the carrier to change the inner axle seals. The bolts for the carrier are tourqed to 45 ft lbs on a dana 30 right. Gonna take the cover back off again tomorrow just to be sure I tourqed them all down I'm like 99 percent sure but I got home and had one of those thoughts like what if I didn't get one lol. It's a lube locker gasket and I didn't fill it so no problem. Gotta put my new ball joints in tomorrow and hopefully tie rods
I put my front fender liners back in and installed new oem replacement fender flares with the brackets. Still need to put them on the rear, maybe I'll find time tomorrow morning. I got the flares and brackets from quadratec.. I'm satisfied with them but not totally. Fitment is 95%. Its the front edge that could line up better with the oem bumper corners. But from 20 feet away it looks great!
Removed the power steering pump again, New reservoir and o-ring. Still leaks and now blowing out from under the reservoir cap.
Time to start replacing.
Called PSC to order a replacement pump (this is a PSC pump) and described the set up:
2001 XJ lifted.
Durango steering box
Drop Pitman arm
Heavy drag link
33" BFG KM3s etc.
Described problem and right away guy tells me I connected something wrong. There's 2 lines. No cooler. No remote anything. It goes together one way. Can't even get the connecting ends wrong. But... it must be my fault.
Ok then- tell me how. Tell me what.
I'm thinking at this point the either the pump failed or was damaged and it's back pressuring into the reservoir or the gear box has a fault and is ramming high pressure into the return line and blowing fluid out of the reservoir connection (and now the cap). I dont think that it's the gear box. The return line connection is just hose clamped and has not backed off at all. The line doesn't feel pressurized. When I put this PSC pump on in 2016(?) it whined but worked. Had almost effortless steering. It started leaking a little while back and the leak just kept getting worse. Then the whining got louder. Now this.
Rock Auto has a few brands of BRAND NEW replacement power steering pumps with reservoirs and lines for just under $200.
The PSC pump with reservoir and only the high pressure line is $340.50
Can't find a garage with the pressure testing gauges and Landers Jeep rudely informed me they refuse service and diagnosis on any Jeep over 10 years old.

If you replace, go with a WJ v8 pump. Much mo betta than a stock XJ one. Has more flow. Lots of articles on how to do the swap.
I finally tracked down the vented windows I wanted for my XJ and had them installed. What I didn’t realize is that they came with a factory mirror finish. I tried to live with the look for a couple of weeks, but the mirror effect just isn’t for me. After doing some research, I decided to put in the work—using elbow grease, several buffing pads and polishes, and a high-speed drill to remove the finish. It took the better part of today, but I got one vent window done. Progress! 🤣
I’ll give it a couple of weeks, tackling a bit every day after work. Once they are all done, I will have the rear windows tinted.
Garage gnomes are REAL and they DO take tax so I went hardware shopping today.
