FINALLY replaced the 100% trash tires my '00 came with when I bought it. I dont drive this much and primary tow it behind my Class A. I went with Crossmax CHTS-1 in the OE size for my Limited (225/70R16). What a huge difference in ride quality. These tires had a bunch of decent reviews was $340 for all four installed at Wally World. I think ill start driving this more often.

Thanks for the tip I'll take a hard look into those tires because new tire time is right around the corner and crap weather isn't far behind.

What do I do today? finished reinstallation of the cooling system filled with water and cleaner then took it for a spin around the county.

The new exhaust sounds gooder than good.

Wise application of heat, Kroil and carefully working it back and forth worked for me.

Decided to take it for a drive as my son no longer wants to have it. Kinda miss it, rides a lot rougher than I remember though.

Want to try something to soften the ride that sounds nutty but has worked on other cars?

Neutral the pre torsion in the rubber suspension bushings by loosening and re tightening the suspension bushing bolts with the vehicles weight on the springs instead of on jacks with the axles hanging down.

Isn't how it's supposed to be done anyways? I was always taught to tighten suspension bolts under load so the bushings wouldn't be torn. Basically put your floor jack under the ball joint and pump it up until the vehicle slightly lifts off of the support jack.

Had the dreaded 4055 major evap leak. been chasing it for a bit. Finally broke down and ordered a amazon smoke generator. Should have done that a lone time ago. Found the split hose on the drivers side firewall. found not have found it with just the 1 psi air pressure. reset codes and have to drive it. fingers crossed.

Default Today is a sad day...

Heard a loud thud cruising up a steep hill, then my rear end started to sway. Is there anything i can do to fix this? Rear upper control arm on 99 grand cherokee.

You need to cut out anything that is rusty there and weld in new steel. Yes, it is doable but that will be a big fabrication job. Im assuming you'll be doing the labor? In most areas this vehicle would be condemned. Might be time to geta new ride; how bad is the rest of the unibody frame?. I just had a rust free XJ sell for (asking) $2500 near me that had a bad motor. Photos looked like it was in mint shape. I've seen WJ's with minimal to no rust go for 1k to 4k too.

Yes it can be repaired. Temporary, semi permanent or permanent. Any of those options takes time, tools and some talent.
Are you a decent fabricator or do you know one ?
Is this your daily driver? Your joy ride? Your family keepsake?

Somewheres buried in here is a thread with pictures by the owner of a red XJ who emptied the engine bay and rebuilt the front after getting hit dead center. Then again after getting hit on the left. And again after getting hit on the right.

Most would opt for a body swap which is a valid option.

It is but I didn't want to say it's so until I could pull up my copy of the FSM

"CAUTION: Suspension components with rubber bushings should be tightened with the vehicle at normal height. It is important to have the springs supporting the weight of the vehicle when the fasteners are torqued. If springs are not at their normal ride position, vehicle ride comfort could be affected and premature bushing wear may occur. Rubber bushings must never be lubricated."

Default Tired of looking at an empty cubby hole

Went on Amazon and got interior tie downs, quick drill, and a cargo net later:
