In the past 2 weeks we have replaced: Radiator, thermostat, upper and lower Rad. hoses, coolant temp sensor (on engine) all sparkplugs, both tensioner/idler pulleys and a new drive belt. All of this stemmed from an issue of being red lined (temp gauge) on my way to town (17 miles from my house. I knew the radiator needed replaced so we started there. I drove in to town s normal for work, my heat never got warm. Once I made it to town I was near redline on my temp gauge. So instead of heading to work I parked at my FIL's house and we started working on it that weekend.
Now with all that replaced it starts and sounds great, so obviously there were a few things going on. It can sit and idle and after 20ish minutes it reaches temp. It will idle there all day and stay in temp range, but if I drive it for a few minutes it shoots up to the 3/4 mark on the temp gauge. I actually had it go into the red as I pulled back into the driveway. I'm just looking for ideas on what to change next. My FIL is going to burp it again today and double check the new thermostat as well. My upper hose gets warm and my lower hose seems to stay fairly cool.
Could this just be air in the system still? He's checking codes again today as well. we reset them after each part replacement to slowly eliminate the possibilities.

Is your outlet hose from your heater core hot? Your heater core might be clogged and burped out some stuff that blocked part of the new radiator. Back flush your system to see if anything comes out.

I'll give this a shot. Drove it today and it took a lot longer to heat up then it previously has. My FIL burped it an got some more air out of the cooling system. Which is why I pushed it again.

- Upper hose gets hot, but the lower hose is cool to the touch.

Fixed?
So after all of the work I listed above, we replaced the waterpump and it seems to have solved it. Weird though as there was no leaking from it and once off it'd didn't appear to have issues. I won't' complain since I have things running atm.
