1997 Cherokee Country 4WD with 4.0, AW4, and 292k miles.
The transmission is... iffy. It's not locking up reliably in 4th, so it's either the torque convertor itself or the TC solenoid. Possibly worse, of course. Other than the 4th gear lockup issue, it was working fine. Shifting when it should. This trans was not treated well by the PO (see my sig #3 for the story) so you might consider it a core for a rebuild. Or hey, throw it in and see how long it lasts. It might surprise you. No guarantees.
Last summer it got a lot of work:
Engine had the head gasket, head bolts, manifold gasket, & lifters replaced. Water pump and T-stat, too. Compression was 145-150 on all cylinders. You can read about that adventure here. New Felpro valve cover gasket, water pump, oil adapter seals. I run Rotella T6, and this engine is clean inside.
Front end work: All new ball joints, tie rod ends, hubs, calipers, rotors, pads. Yeah, pretty much everything except the steering box.
New windshield.
New rear springs and shocks all around.
About two years ago, IIRC: New distributor, new Bosch fuel pump, new NAPA power steering pump, new NAPA alternator.
Tires are General Grabber ATs. The rears have good life left in them, the fronts, not so much. I will post or email pictoors on request. Here's my opinion of them. I should add that they do give good service life.
I'm open to offers, and happy to take more pictures for anything you need to look at. Small parts, large parts, whatever. I'm happy to ship if paid in advance. Please look up shipping from 22601.
Pics to follow.

Year: 1998 Classic (I'll get it running soon....) and 02 Grand
Model: Cherokee (XJ)
Engine: 4.0
Interior
The interior is in good shape. Except for the drivers side armrest (which is coming apart), and the obvious air bag business, there is no damage. It's a bit grubby in places, but nothing that won't clean up.

UPDATE: My son and a grinder got the front end opened up so we can see inside the engine compartment and evaluate things.
There's good news and bad news:
The Bad News:
The new water pump did not survive the accident.
The intake manifold likewise took a beating. The power steering pump got pushed back and cracked the manifold where it mounts there. I suppose it would be possible to have it heli-arced together. It does not appear that the intake runners are cracked. See picture.
Broken intake manifold
The Good News:
I have a good used radiator and a like new (just purchased last summer!) electric fan for sale!
A bottle of Bar's Stop Leak and it's good as new!
Might need some balancing.
I will be getting under the Jeep in the next few days to determine the condition of the suspension parts. The first look seems pretty good.
If you are ever willing to drop the tank and sell me that new(ish) Bosch fuel pump unit for a decent price i'll gladly take it off your hands. My OEM pump's check valve has been causing a long crank for the past 50,000 miles. Shipping would be about $20 for the biggest flat-rate box @ USPS.
