I trashed the unlocking hubs. Put in new ball joints, unit bearings and brakes. Also not Jeep related but I sold my powermate for Rubicon run funds. Didn't even have a full tank of gas through it. Been dragging it around since 91 and it was time to go. Sold it to a guy and his two dogs living in his jobs storage yard trying to get back on his feet.
Yikes, that wasn't one of their units with a Tecumseh HM100, was it?

Didn't feel any vibes driving back, but as hard as my daughter hit that log figured it'd be a good idea to check for bent rims.
All good!
Also ordered up a set of 3.5" leaf springs. One step closer to getting the new rear under her! And the PO's combo of AALs, lift shackles and blocks will soon be a distant memory.

Broke the rear driveshaft clean at the ears, easy peasy to remove it, drove back to the parking lot in FWD, and then a nice guy gave me his spare so I can make it home (I had 2.25 hour drive, while he trailered his jeep).
Also dented the roof line where it meets the side panels (near the A pillar above the drivers door) but not enough to make the door inoperable.
When I broke the driveshaft, I was winched out (my front tires was hanging on a rock ledge and wouldn't be able to get over it without the rear tires). So the guys behind me can come out of the very narrow trail.
The guy behind me broke BOTH his front and rear driveshafts on the same ledge.
In overall it was a very good day.
Must be a Jeep thing to list all the stuff you broke on your last wheeling trip and declare it a "good day"

I have a slightly newer model with a HM100 that runs about 4000 dB and uses as much gas as the XJ.
Used to have a similar old PowerMate, with the HM100 and "lawn mower" gas tank that was good for about 3 hours of run time. Noisy and thirsty, but we built a house with it and it ran everything we threw at it. By the time I had gotten rid of it, it needed a valve job a carb rebuild, spark arrester, and recoil starter.

ProComp for now, I'll see how I like em. I know they ride stiff(course they all do till they break in), but I carry a lot of weight so it shouldn't be too bad.
Dirt cheap on Scamazon right now, with bushings and pinion shims if I need em, $228 after tax, shipped 2-day delivery.
I have to agree I think some tubing would do the trick for that. I'll have to look at mine, but something makes me think that the bolt was not centered in that giant hole. I didn't care for the 2 thin washers that they gave me to cover up the hole. Why couldn't they at least cut out a small piece of 1/8" plate to cover that hole?
While I was under the jeep tightening the bumper bolts (I didn't get around to over the weekend). I checked out that one bolt that just has 2 big washers covering the hole. Both that hole and the one on the other side have a slight lip on the inside. When the bolt comes through it hits the hole on the inside it is not centered (11o'clock position). I think I may just make a plate to replace the flimsy washers. I think that will be easier (and distribute the load better) then trying to get a piece of tubing in there.
I did bend the horn brackets so that they fit under the bumper better.
I haven't figured out where to put the air canister that was attached to the OEM bumper. Any ideas?
I bought and towed home (with a different vehicle) a parts Jeep for it. I'm going to strip it down to nothing, and I didn't even have to buy it dinner!

Oh and I went and bought this Saturday for $275. Not a Cherokee. But it's the xjs grandpa! It cranks over and the rad and grille are in the back.
That could be really interesting...what's the overall condition?

I'm not familiar with it. What's the significance of the Walbro OS?
