Yeah, if I could find one for that price, and had a better welder I'd certainly do that. I went with the 29 spl 8.25 swap on mine because it's plug n play. Still gonna be putting work into it to rebuild the Trac Lok and disc swap though.

Either way, I couldn't beat the price I paid for mine though.

Nothin wrong with that at all. What kind of welder you running?

I just figured since the Jeep is going to be torn down completely I might as well.

lol... I'm embarassed to say, but it's a Chicago Electric 90 amp FCAW... good ole' HF box o' crap. It's not even set up to weld flux properly (output is AC). But it does okay on exhaust and stickin' metal together.

I'm hoping for an Eastwood MIG soon.

NOICE!
Don't be embarrassed about it, I have plenty of harbor freight specials around my garage. As you know, some of the HF stuff is great, some of it not so great.

These aren't fun parts but parts nonetheless. Got my felpro rear main seal and oil pan gasket in today. Jeep is going a little overboard with marking its territory in my driveway.

Yeah true story there. I have a lot of HF tools that I couldn't be happier with, if they'd have wired that welder DCEN like they were supposed to, it would probably be fine.

Oooooo fun fun.... I've already replaced the RMS, but I need to replace the pan seal again 'cause it got all twisted up somehow and now it's leaking like a sieve. Haven't had a chance to change it out yet. Hopefully Friday.

From what i've seen it shouldnt be too bad (famous last words). Going to wait until I have the front axle out to do it. Give myself as much room as possible.

Contemplating whether or not Im going to do the 8.8 swap right away. Might just put the suspension in, save up some money and build the 8.8 a little at a time until I have gears/locker, etc then re-gear the front at the same time I do the swap.

Only thing im hesitant about is running stock gears and open diffs on 35's and how bad it might suck. But it will minimize down time.

Of course in a perfect world I'd do it all at once, but thats $$$$$

Yeah if you have the axle out, that should help a little. My old one was being really stubborn, so I snagged a "Gorilla Hook" from WalMart and cut the hook end off with a pair of Kleins... helped out a lot pushing the old one out.

As far as the axle swap goes, just do what you can afford man. If you can't do the swap yet, just go easy on the skinny pedal. Having an open diff should take some of the strain off of it for now.

That looks pretty handy. I have some various punches I think will work.

Not so much worried about it breaking on an open diff and stock gears. Will just be extremely sluggish.

Plans are 4.88's front and rear, 8.8 detroit in the rear and selectable up front. Probably save my pennies and hoard axle parts, do the rear swap and front gears in a weekend.

Got my wheels in today and mounted them up at work. 15x8 with 3.75 backspace. Threw 10oz of balancing beads in each of them. Never used beads before but didn't want a ton of weights on the wheels to get knocked off. Only time will tell how they work, the beads came with new valve cores to prevent them from causing a leak or coming out. Tried my currie deflater on them with the beads and didn't have any issues. Im still skeptical but staying optimistic.

Closer up.

Current setup vs the 35's

Low cog build??? Lol

I didn't have very good luck with the smaller beads. I still haven't had a chance to vacuum them out yet, but once I do, Airsoft BBs are going in.

Shhhh, don't say that fish licker. You're suppose to say they are going to work great!

That is good to know though, we had a bunch of bags of the counteract beads laying there at work so I figured why not. I've heard mixed reviews on them. If they suck I'll break the bead and try something else I guess.

The Counteract might be better. The ones I used were TyreBeads.com purchased from Amazon. I don't think they're really meant for flotation tires.
