Working on a 95 XJ. Trying to remove my old catalytic converter. I have taken off the two U bolts and looks like there are two pieces of hardware that keep the converter from rotating. I think these might be from the factory so needless to say they are old.
I can't tell quite what they are or how to remove them or even if I need to remove them in order to take out the catalytic converter. They look like they could be allen head and hex head bolts but they are just too old to even really be sure. Pics provided. Are these preventing me from removing the cc? Just don't want to force anything. Next steps to get this thing out would greatly be appreciated.
It's a rivet. Just cut the front pipe length wise so you can split the old pipe off, grind/file down the rivet and install the new converter.
x2. Don't be a clown like I was and cut perpendicular to the pipe then realize you still have the sleeve to cut off the down and muffler pipes...
Although a little tip about the sleeve that slides into the muffler: mine was solid frozen from it being the original cat. Maybe only slice off the front of the cat and remove the cat still attached to the muffler so you have something for your BFH to hit while trying to remove the cat from the muffler.
