Default 1999 2WD Cherokee transmission swap question

Hi, I am trying to replace the bad trans in my son's '99 2WD. I bought a trans on craigslist thinking it was the right one. Everything on the transmissions look the same except one of the plug on mine is an 8-pin and the one I bought is a 6-pin. The original trans also has a sensor on the driver's side near the bellhousing that the other doesn't. Is there any way to make this work, like swapping over the harnessed and not connecting the extra sensor. I sort of already know the answer, since I'm sure that would set a code and not allow me to pass smog (I'm in California). Any advice would be helpful even its regarding identifying the correct trans so I can go find another one. thanks

Most likely won't work. Chances are the trans won't work at all if the connections are that different, without changing out the computers and harnesses.

What's strange is I found another one on Craigslist that claims to be from a '99 also without the extra sensor and I found one that says it is from a '98 and it looks like it had the sensor like our '99. Only thing I can figure is that there was some type of mid year change or they were equipped differently.

Called the local transmission shop and they wanted $1950 to rebuild it, LOL I can buy another 2WD Cherokee for that. I guess its time for a trip to the wrecking yard.

Jeep did love to mix crap up mid-year lol. I think it's the 96 that's REALLY bad about that.

2 grand sounds about right if that included the labor to remove, rebuild and reinstall.

You might be able to buy another one for that, but it won't have a brand new transmission, lol.

The sensor at the bell housing sounds like the CPS. Every XJ made has this sensor.
Pic's would make this way too easy.
