Default IronRock NP242 SYE

I am about to order the IronRock SYE for my 1992 XJ with an NP242 transfer case and plan on using the front driveshaft in the rear.
The iron rock website says that a seal flange is required for the NP231 case, do I need it for 242? I have asked iron rock sales and they claim it is not required, but I have read in some posts here that it is.
Could someone who uses this SYE on an older XJ with NP242 comment if it is needed or not?

This topic also says that there are apparently two versions of this SYE: a 231 version and an "uncut, longer one" (3-rd reply): https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f67/ha...ap-sye-107994/
Iron rock website has only a single product code and I am not sure I can trust the sales rep to ship me the correct item due to the possible misinformation about the seal flange.

Here is a previous post: I got my NP242 SYE from MIT in 2003 and have no issues. I'ts been great. I installed it myself. The hardest part was the darn C-clamps inside the T-case. They don't have the holes in the ends for the C-clamp pliers.

Here is what my MIT SYE kit looks like on my 89' NP242. I installed this back in 2003. I don't remember how much it was.
I am more than happy with what I got.

You're thinking of snap rings (sometimes called circlips), which have those holes. The t/c uses lock rings, and lock ring pliers make installation/removal much easier.

This looks very nice and clean. Do you remember if the flange seal also came with the kit? From the photos I see this is a new part and this is what I am worried about because the IronRock one looks different.

Thanks, so the version of the transfer case is not important in this case. I have the cone, so I have ordered the flange seal as well. Hopefully everything fits when I get the parts.
