I recently bought a four cylinder jeep to get scrap parts for my 99 cherokee with an inline 6. the starter has just went out and i was wondering if they were the same starters? the 4 cylinder only has 120k on it and is in pretty good shape so i would imagine the starter should be ok. I need to get this puppy on the road

 

no they are not even close to being the same. The 4.0L starter is much bigger. I have no idea if it will bolt up and work though, but even if it does it'll be way under-powered for that engine and you'll burn it up

 

Grab a flashlight and take a look to see if they're similar. I don't think they are. IIRC the 4 cylinder starter bolts on like an old GM.
