I'm starting this thread so that I will remember to take lots of pictures as we continue to work on my Jeep. Calling it the PBJ Project (PB BLASTER JEEP) because everything is rusted to everything. We've cut several bolts so far and broken a bunch more.

I bought the thing for about a grand and have more than that into it so far as I keep just emptying every pocket. The project is slow, but it will take over as my DD when my dad and I "finish" it. We're having a good time bonding over it and I hope it turns out well. I think I'll have to wait until she's complete to name her and put the custom finishing touches on.

That's a ton of crap to do. I'll try to keep up with taking pictures as we go and keep this thing alive. We have everything but the transmission out from under the jeep right now and I'm full time cleaning parts on the wire wheel. Probably crank up sandblasting soon. Then we'll be painting/powder coating small parts to prepare what we could salvage to go back on. Next post will contain pics of the jeep as it is today. Feel free to chime in on easier, cheaper, smarter ways to do things!

 

Here are some pictures of how it stands now. I spent a few hours yesterday cleaning up bolts/small parts on the wire wheel and got a new gasket for the rear differential cover. As you can see, there is quite a ways to go. I think I'm going to stay with black and paint the steering/suspension orange. Should be nasty.

 

Here are a few pictures of the motor. Remember, I'm a Clemson grad. After I snapped those photos the fuel rail was painted white, the throttle body got some paint, the dist. cap got painted, the engine mounts are white and probably a few other details I'm not thinking about. It's pretty cool as long as you're not a Gamecock.

 

Unfortunately, I'm still working on boring stuff on this thing. Spent several hours today scraping old liner off the underside so I can expose rust and clean that up. Dad did a little sandblasting on the axles.

is the purple anodized, powder coated or rattle can? its hard to tell from the pics. never-the-less looks great.

Rattle can, we're a little worried about how it'll hold up long term. But the best thing about that is, just squirt some more on.

And thanks for the compliments! I've still got a little ways to go before anything starts to be awesome, but I think we'll get there. Dad and I are heading to harbor freight to look at needle scalers to make the clean up easier. After I go to the gym I'll probably get back under it and keep scraping/cleaning.

 

Ran the needle scaler for awhile today. Still have some more of the under coating to clean off. Then I'll be cranking up the sand blaster for the steering and other parts. Cleaning parts for reassembly is for the birds. We're both looking forward to when we start bolting things back together instead.

Found a few rust holes in the floor. We'll have to deal with those too. What are you guys doing to redo your under coating? It needs to be tough and stand up to exhaust heat. Ideas?

Time to finish cleaning up the underside and start spraying rustoleum. We just paid off my wife's car and are now debt free. That means as cash comes in it can be devoted to the Jeep until we get it running. I need whole new drum brake assemblies in the back if you guys know of any deals.

Drum brake parts are fairly cheap at any of the chain parts stores: autostoned, pep-boys, advanced, napa, etc...
