Default Rear speakers rewire

I had issues with my rear speakers so I decided to run the rear speakers wires from the radio plug, direct to the rear speakers. Still no sound. New radio, new 14g speaker wire which I ran along roof panel and down A piller. I cut the plugs at the rear speakers and spliced them in. Front speakers fine, nothing at the rear. I used cadence speaker wire instead of automotive wire. Will that make a difference?

Do you have a factory amp? What head unit?

I have a non CD JVC headunit, and I do not have a factory amp. At least I don't think so

Sounds to me like the head unit speaker outputs might be fried, hopefully someone else can confirm that

For some reason, I could not connect my rear speakers directly to the back of the radio. So I didn't use the new wires I ran, and spiced into the stock wires, and the rear speakers worked!

Strange that I couldn't hook them up directly. Anyone know a reason why? Once I used the stock wires, it worked. Was it a ground issue?
