Recently bought a 93 Cherokee with Led headlights. Two problems I have with them, 1. They only work on a toggle switch and not the stock switch (park lights work off of the stock switch) how do I make them work on the stock switch or will they?
2. They stay on (dim but still on) all the time as shown in the pic, how can I stop this? Thanks in advance but I will be giving more thanks later
You could route the OEM wiring powering the bulbs into relays, using those to power the LEDs instead. One of the commonly available headlight harnesses should work just fine.
The LED headlights should be plug'n'play. Who knows how/why PO wired them up as they are.
LED's won't really benefit from upgraded harness with relays (not that it'd do any harm), so I'd start by reverting to original wiring (not sure if that's what you meant you'd tried).
As for them glowing when off, I've had that with interior lights converted by a PO - but not any of those I've done myself, I think it's an issue with cheap LED's.
I plugged the harness back into where it was supposed to be, I’m guessing my switch is bad cause original lights will not work on it. Doesn’t make sense that the parks work and the headlights don’t on the switch?
That the original lights don't work does rather suggest the switch & it makes perfect sense, at least to me, only one function of a multi-function switch has failed.
Easy enough to check with a jumper wire.
Now occurred to me that some LED units have a DRL function, that might explain the glow when they're off.
Are you now suggesting it's just the brights that don't work? If so, it probably not the switch or, at least not the lightswitch, but rather the dimmer function of the lefthand lever.
