I had an old alpine cdplayer from 1998 had no special ports and one set of rca so I decided to go and upgrade.

So I went out and picked up a 120$ pioneer head unit deh-x3600 it has a usb port and a aux input I run 2 amps like I have always done one for the door speakers and one for the subs.

With this new radio I get maybe one or 2 stations only one is clear enough to listen to I don't know what gives I thought pioneer made the best tuners.

What I have heard is that all new radios receive like crap except alpine and pioneer but that's from what I been told super tuner model pioneers.

So I had a harness that had been installed for the alpine when I took it out of the car I cut off the alpine plug 2 or 3 inches from the back of the radio so there would still be enough wires to rehook up the radio when I sold it.

So I installed the new radio and I hooked it up to the aftermarket harness plugged in the antenna and drove around I got maybe one station so I played around with the local and distance type settings on the radio and nothing much changed I got maybe 4 stations and they kept fading in and out.

so the other day I pulled out the radio had a loose speaker wire to fix plus I bought a plastic dash kit to install. I moved the antenna wire around unplugged it and plugged back in and it seemed like I had more stations 3 that would come in somewhat clear the one I had been getting was stronger and the other 2 were somewhat clear but would fade somewhat you could almost listen and not be annoyed.

Now I don't know if the 89 had a power antenna of some sort or maybe amplified and my problem is something to do with a blue wire.

I have a pioneer Cherokee which is fully loaded has all the bells and whistles power everything.

Any ideas or do all new radios suck I mean I used to get stations 100 miles away with the alpine maybe I am missing something

Yes, if the antenna is not fully in the antenna port it won't get the best signal. Make sure the antenna is in the port as far as it can go.

Pull the passenger side kick panel and check the connection behind it. There's a connection back there that loves to pop apart.

well ok I will look into that.

The problem I had years ago some lil ****s walked by and snapped off my antenna so there was a piece of it sticking out I took that piece out.

stuck a piece of 14g speaker wire in the hole and pushed it down moved it around till I got a signal it was maybe a foot long the rest of the foot hung over the side of right fender and I drove around and everything was great for awhile.

One day I came across someones big boaty like ford taurus from the late 90's notice it still had a antenna on it and figured what if I could use the mast and some mounting parts that it was screwed into and make everything fit.

Well nothing could be used but the rod I figured if I wrap a piece of that speaker wire around the threaded rod part of the metal mast rod then I could some how stick the other end of the speaker wire down in the hole like so just like before and use the original jeep housing and screw it back and jb weld the antenna mast in solid so that's what I did.

it seemed to work well for awhile but seemed like after I upgraded head units reception was poor now.

like I mentioned before I'm sure most of you prolly hear it too or have herd that alpine or pioneer are top dogs over anything when it comes to tuners so I'm kinda stumped

Maybe someone can chime in if they have used a similar model or what not I plan on checking my connections anyways
