Default '02 WJ: Rear Speaker Upgrade Question

So this past summer I upgraded my front door speakers in my '02 WJ (non-Infinity Gold) to aftermarket Alpine 6x9"'s and created a thread about doing so.

Now I want to upgrade my rear door speakers to Alpine 6X 1/2"'s that are in the SPE Series (SPE-6000) to match my front door speakers. My question is, there aren't a lot of 6X 1/2" aftermarket speakers that will fit exactly because the factory 6X 3/4" speaker sits within a close proximity to the plastic door speaker grille. Is there a way to still get any 6x 1/2" aftermarket speaker to fit into the rear door of the WJ, even if I have to do some modification to the metal? Like cutting something out that will allow the speaker to sit further back in the door, and further away from the speaker grill?

I'm looking to hear from fellow WJ owners who have upgraded their factory rear door speakers.

Thanks,

Vince
