A question

Any benefit in getting rid of aluminum valve cover or is it better to keep rather than go with steel one?

I don't know about these for sure, but it has been my experience that as long as it is good and flat, aluminum covers tend to seal better because they apply more equal and even pressure all the way around.

The steel ones actually seems to seal better from what I've seen, the aluminum fill cap leaks unless you do cruiser's mod, and the pcv/ccv need to be cut. I went steel with my swap. Make sure you get the correct valve cover gasket for whichever you choose. I'm fairly certain they have a different gasket for the two types.

Thank you for sharing this. That's why I was not sure about these, every engine design has their own little quirks like that. I could see the metal possibly being better with the composite silicone gasket and the standoff bushings.

Bought a ruffstuff one ton steering kit from a member here.

I think last major thing I need to buy is two front tires, then it's all downhill from now, just gotta buy small stuff. Like radiator, downpipe, etc.

The small stuff adds up big time. Everywhere you turn it's something new that you need. Even when I thought I had everything I had to buy more

I love my HD steering. I also have TREs, not heims.

Yeah, with our swamp, mud and no way to grease the heims, they don't last very long down here.

Extremely easy mod to do though. And the oil cap issue can be fixed with an old bicycle innertube.

I think it just boils down to a matter of preference. I liked the way the aluminum valve cover looked. Especially after I painted mine, then stripped and polished the "fins" on the top of it to give it a custom look.

I always liked that shinned up fin look too.
