Ok I've done some research and i still cant find what im asking lol so here it is. I'm swapping a aw4/242 from a 90xj 4.0 into my 88mj 4.0 aw4. What i need to know is why the mj doesn't have the vacuum/kickdown control.on the firewall like all my xjs have. And do i need this for my swap?

The picture you're showing is the cruise control actuator.....has nothing to do with the tranny. The transmission line pressure is controlled by a cable that runs from a bracket at the top rear of the throttle body. It has a "D" shaped box (as seen from above) about 3/4" across, with a push button on top to make correct adjustments to the cable. That cable is attached to the same bell crank on the throttle body that your throttle actuator rod is connected to. I've used your picture to show you the cable. The cable controls line pressure according to throttle position, and may help facilitate kickdown, which is also controlled in some situations by signals from the TPS to the TCU. There are no vacuum lines to the transmission.
The cruise control cable that runs from the actuator runs down behind and below the throttle body and pulls up on a bell crank on a bracket attached to the intake manifold where your accelerator cable (and the other end of the throttle actuator rod) also connects.
To answer your last question, if your MJ doesn't have cruise, you wont need this.

What he said..
You'll no doubt need to adjust the TV cable.. if you're not familiar with it, it's really simple. Press "D-shaped" button and push cable housing back into the adjuster. Release button and twist the throttle to wide open position. You'll hear the adjuster ratchet into position as you do this. (engine off of course)
And that's it.. simple, but important as the tranny can be damaged if the adjustment is off too much. (early or late shifting) Here's a pic

Well its getting there. I have everything stripped from my donor.now just clean everything up and find a rear d.shaft then i can put it together. Plus i had to scrap the carcass from the donor so the mj helped its organ donor to its final resting place
